Yazı dizimin ikinci bölümüne hoş geldiniz. Bu yazımda diğer branşım olan fizik için sizlerle dersimde  uyguladığım bir "Flipped Classroom" yöntemini paylaşacağım.

Geçtiğimiz hafta 9A sınıfında "Kuvvet-Hareket" konusuna geçecektik. Bir ders öncesinde öğrencilerimden  bir ödev istedim.

Amacım; öğrencilerimin bu  konuyla ilgili  hafızalarını canlandırmış, önceki yaşanmışlıklarını konuyla bağlamış, araştırma yapmış, hayal güçlerini kullanmış ve yorumlama yetenekleriyle ( belki de soru işaretleri ile..) derse hazır gelmelerini sağlamaktı.  

Bu konunun başında çoğunlukla  Alınan Yol (the total road) ve Yerdeğiştirme (displacement) kavramlarında "kavram yanılgısı" yaşanır. Ödevim de tam bununla ilgiliydi.

 Onlara bir kaç  soru sorup meraklandırdım : 

• " Bir şoför olarak arabanızın benzini, alınan yolla mı yoksa  yerdeğiştirmeyle mi doğru orantılı olarak azalsın isterdiniz?" 
• "Sizce hangisi daha karlı?"

Ve ardından yanıtı için düşünmelerini,  bir sonraki ders için video, resim gibi görsel bir materyal hazırlamalarını istedim. Ortaya çıkan sonuçları merak ettiniz mi?

Ortaya çıkan güzel görüntüler beni mutlu ederken, sınıfta hem akran öğrenmesini hem görsel materyallerle kalıcı bir öğrenme sağlamış olduk. 

Daha sonrasında öğrencilerimin sürat ve hızı kavramlarını anlamaları daha basit oldu.

Homojen Olmayan Sınıflarda "Google Uygulama"ları ve "Flipped Classroom" İdeolojisi   -1

Merhaba. 

Flipped Classroom üzerinde yaklaşık bir yıldır çalışıyorum. Bu doğrultuda bir yazı dizisi oluşturmaya karar verdim. Bu ilk yazımda homojen olmayan  9. sınıfımda nasıl bir uygulama yaptığımı ve Google Uygulamalarını "Flipped Classroom" ideolojisine nasıl dahil ettiğimi paylaşacağım.

"Üslü Sayılar" konusuna yeni geçiş yapmıştık. Bu konuyla ilgili öğrencilerimin neler hatırladığını ölçmek  ve bu konuyla ilgili görecekleri belki de "bir adım ötesi" sorular üzerine biraz çalışmalarına zemin hazırlamak amaçlı bir Google Forms oluşturdum. Bu onların sınıfa hazır (kafalarında soru işaretleriyle) gelmelerini sağlayacaktır ;)

Not:

Tabiki Google uygulamları hakkında yazacağım diğer yazılardan önce bir öneride bulunmak isterim. Sınıftaki öğrencilerinizin bu duruma alışmaları gerekmektedir. İzleyeceğiniz bazı adımlar şunlar olabilir.

• Her öğrencinizin bir Google Hesabı açması gerekmektedir.
• Size mail atmalarını sağlayarak onları rehberinize eklemelisin.  (Daha sonra Google Drive'da oluşturacağınız dosyaları paylaşıma açarken öğrencilerinizin maillerini kullanmak kolay olacaktır.)

Öncelikle Google Hesabınızı açtıktan sonra Uygulamalar kısmından Google Drive'ı seçiyorsunuz.

Daha sonra açılan pencerede ise aşağıdaki gibi Oluştur sekmesinden Form'u tıklıyorsunuz.

 Bir tema seçmenizi sağlayacak pencere açılacaktır. Yine aynı pencerede formunuza konunuz doğrultusunda isim de verebilirsiniz.

Temanızı seçip, formunuza bir ad verdikten sonra artık istediğiniz tür soru tipiyle tasarlayabileceğiniz (çoktan seçmeli, metin, ölçek, onay kutusu..) formunuz karşınızda duruyor olacak.

Bundan sonraki her adım, bu sayfayı deneme yanılma yoluyla incelemeniz ve yaratıcılığınız doğrultusunda şekillenecektir. Ben kendi oluşturduğum formdan resimler göstermek isterim.

Bu formu oluşturduktan sonra öğrencilerle paylaşmak için öncelikle sağ üst köşede görülen "FormuGönder" sekmesine basmalısınız. Daha sonra bu linki öğrencilerinizin mail adreslerine toplu olarak gönderip alınan yanıtları görebilirsiniz. Yanıtlar Google Drive 'da Yanıtlar olarak bir dosya halinde görülecektir. Böylece verilen yanıtlar doğrultusunda bir sonraki dersi planlayabilir ve öğrencilerinizin çalışıp gelmesini sağlamış olursunuz.

Sınıfımda ders işlerken Khan Academy Türkiye sitesindeki videolardan da faydalanıyorum. Öğrencilerin geri bildirimlerinden de bunun faydalı olduğunu görmek beni çok sevindirdi.

Bu yönteme ilk başladığımda açık konuşmak gerekirse (her ne kadar öğrencilerimize "DİJİTAL YERLİLER" dense de henüz bu kuşağın değil de şimdi çocuk olan kuşağın dijital yerliler olduğunun altını çizerek) forma ilgi gösterenler çok azdı ancak birkaç seferden sonra, faydasını gören öğrencilerin birbirini ikna etmesiyle bu sayı her geçen seferde arttı.

Bu formu ben tercihen bu yıl 10. sınıfta olan öğrencilerimle de paylaştım. Amacım onların da bilgilerini tazelemekti :) Yazımın başında da söylediğim gibi benim sınıflarım başarı konusunda çok da homojen değil. Bu yüzden yeni yöntemler denemek ve başarıyı arttırmak beni motive ediyor.

Flipped Classroom öğrencileri sınıfta hazır hale getirmek yerine, onları kafalarındaki soru işaretleriyle sınıfa gelmelerini sağlıyor.

 Böylece belki bir grup çalışmasıyla belki de sizin hazırlayacağınız farklı bir ders planıyla daha çok motive oluyor ve sınıfta hep ilgisiz davranan öğrencilerin de harekete geçmesini sağlıyor.

 "KURA ÇEKME"

Matematik veya geometri derslerinde konunun anlaşılması için öğrencilerimizin daha fazla soru çözümüne ihtiyaç duyduğunu hissederiz. Ancak bunu yaparken monotonluktan çıkmak ve bütün sınıfı aynı anda canlı tutmak oldukça güçtür. Özellikle de seviyeleri birbirinden oldukça farklı bir sınıfa sahipseniz. Bunun için geçtiğimiz hafta sınıfa ufak bir heyecan katmak için "KURA ÇEKME" yöntemine başvurdum.


"Polinomlar" konusunu tamamlamıştık, ancak son yıllarda üniversite sınavlarında çıkmış sorulara göz atamamıştık. Bunun için ne yapabilirim  diye düşünürken, sınıfta kura çekebileceğimi düşündüm ve dersi planlamaya başladım.





Öncelikle kurayı nasıl çekebilirim sorusuna yanıt buldum. "Microsoft Excel" yeterliydi. Yandaki pencerede formülünü gördüğünüz bir komutla bunu çok rahat yapabiliyorsunuz. Hangi sayılar arasında rastgele bir çekiliş yapacaksanız onu girmeniz yeterli.






NOT:
 Eğer Microsoft Excel'i İngilizce kullanıyorsanız komutu  =RANDOMBETWEEN(number;number) şeklinde girmelisiniz.

Sınıfta etkileşimli tahtadan excel dosyasını rahatlıkla (internete gerek olmadan) açıp bir sayı çektim ve kitabımızın pdf formatı da tahtamızda mevcut olduğundan, çekilen sayıya karşılık gelen  "Polinom"lara ait çıkmış soruyu ekrana getirdim. Tam o anda  öğrencilerim bir öneride bulunup yarışmak istediler. Bir anda sınıfta bir rekabet ortamı yaratılmış ve derse istediğim ilgiyi toplamıştım. Süreye karşı yarışarak ilk çözen etkileşimli tahtaya gelip çözümünü arkadaşlarıyla paylaştı. Böylece "akran öğrenmesine" de fırsat vermiş oldum.

Bu fikre farklı bakış açılarıyla yaklaşıp belki grup çalışmaları da yapılabilir.

Google Forms'un da Katkılarıyla "Flipped Classroom" için Ufak bir Fikir

"Flipped Classroom" için Ufak bir Fikir: "WORD HUNT" = "KELİME AVI"

"Flipped Classroom" u geçen yıldan beri sınıflarımda uyguluyorum. Daha önceki yazılarıma da göz atarsanız bu konuyla ilgili bir çok yeni fikirle karşılaşabilir, kimbilir belki siz de bunu sınıflarınıza uyarlayabilirsiniz.

Bu yeni yazımda, yine derse hazır (kafasında soru işaretleri uyandırılmış) öğrenciler oluşturmak için bir fikir önereceğim. "Kelime Avı"

Bu yöntemi geçtiğimiz haftalarda ilk kez "Polinomlar" konusuna başlarken uyguladım. Tabiki yardımcılarım "Google Uygulamaları" nı da  kullanarak öğrencileime dersten önceki akşam bir "Google Forms" dosyası oluşturdum.






Bu dosyaya "Polinomlar" konusunun anahtar kelimelerinden oluşan kelime avının görselini ekledim ve öğrencilere mail attım.









Onlardan yanıtlar geldikçe herkesin ertesi günkü yeni ders için biraz daha hazırlıklı olduklarını hissettim. Bu  olay onlarda bir taraftan soru işaretleri oluştururken, bir taraftan da onları kitaplarını açarak ders öncesi şöyle bir araştırmaya sevk ediyor.

"SPEAKİNG PENCİLS" after the WEEKENDS..

 It's a good activity for the first lesson of the week.

Today I tried an activity with my 9-B graders in math lesson.,

 I want to share it because it worked well and you may want to use it for your classes with small changes.

• I prepared 4 diffrent big pages (preferable poster size) with 4 diffrent questions (chosen from "WEEKEND HOMEWORK") written on them. Then I randomly separated students into 4 groups. 

• Each groups met in front of one page. They started to answer the questions when I said "START". 

• They continued writing for 2 minutes. Then they moved for the other questions. 

• They visited all the stations. 8 minutes later the activity finished when I "STOP"ed them.

With this activity I aimed;

•  to evaluated our new students "homework responsibilities"
• to make a "group work" to provide new students to contact each other.
• to revise the previous math lesson
• to start to a new week with an enjoyable and useful activity.

Maybe we can break a prejudice towards mathematics... I believe...

The Excitement of the New School Term and New İdeas

New... Diffrent... Original...
We always need new ideas for motivate students as a teacher.
I have an idea and I want to share with you.
I designed half avatars for students. AVATARS?

What can we do using this avatars?

 I have lots of answers to this question.
 But  I'm a math teacher so I designed this model for this purpose. :)

•  First half of the model shows what students need to know before starting the new school term. 

• The second one shows what have students will learned at the end of the year.

I'm planning to use this model to decorate the door of the class and welcome my students to the new school year.
We can develop something like this. For example on the first week of the school, you  might want to write what students know about this mathematical topics in the beginning of the year. They can fill this table with colourful post-its. And during the year, they can watch their progress.

İf you want you can use these half avatars to show class  or school rules ;)

A PRACTİCAL WAY : YOUTUBE CONVERTER

Youtube-mp3.org  is an online tool to convert videos into mp3 files.
 Once converted you can easily download the mp3 files on your desktop.

You don't need any account.  All you need is a Youtube URL.

Now I want to explain the steps.

• First you copy the video's URL that you want to convert. 

• Then go to the tool, paste the url and click on convert.

• When you paste the Youtube URL, the converter will be ready to convert the audotrack to install in any file.

You can use it with your Mac, Linux computer or an iPhone.

Don't worry, the service is completely free. You need only 3-4 minutes per video for the predicate.

I would prefer to use youtube converter instead of other programs like "Ares or "Limewire" etc..

• FLİPPED SUMMER SPARE TİME USİNG GOOGLE DRİVE & GOOGLE FORMS

After a very tiring school term, finaly it's time to rest, swim and read more... For this summer vacation I prepared a lesson plan for my students. We will continue to "FLİPPED CLASSROOM" project. 

This year we saved and categorized all the lesson that we use in class as a PDF file. Then we use the "GOOGLE DRİVE" to store our files organized.

My students use this files to revise previous lessons and also they refresh their knowledge.

Using "GOOGLE DRİVE" we created a great collection of lessons in a year.

• For this summer, I will prepare math tests for my students every 15 days using "GOOGLE FORMS" ( Also, you can use handy tests pictures to preparethis forms.)

• Then I can easily control and give feedbacks according to their answers.
• During this summer vacation they can also use our math collection.

In short, "GOOGLE APPS" make our life easier and make us more creative...

My First Seminar Experience About

 "Flipped Classroom"

Yesterday I was at "Third Math Teachers Sharing Seminar" at Irmak Schools as a presenter.

We started to listen to Dr. Serkan Özel who is a faculity member at the Primary Education Department at Boğaziçi University. He had two presentations.

In his first He took attention to constructive notice for some programs like "icloud", "Dropbox", "Diigo" and some features of office programs like " mail-merge", "screen-shot".

 In his second presentation, he showed us some applications about "Dynamic Geometry and Math Softwares" like "Sketchpad", "Geogebra" and "Cabri 3 D"

Then it was my turn. I was so excited. I started to my presentation "What am I doing in my classes about Flipped Classroom" and I showed some examples. I also adviced them to use this ideology as a solution of the intensity of the curriculum.







After the lunch break, Emre Fırat who works in İstanbul American Robert College as a math teacher started to his presentation about "Google Apps" in math education. He shared some of his useful examples and experiences with us. He is also Google Apps Certified Trainer that I mentioned in my previous article. 






The last presenter was Hüseyin Baş. He is math teacher at Irmak Schools. He showed us some animation applications with using "Cabri 3D". For example he prepared an animation of open cylinder model.



However it's difficult to visualize cross-sectional planes of 3D shapes, so this program can solve this problem.




At the end of the day, I was so happy that I experience such a nice  program. Meeting to new people and sharing new ideas and informations are fabulous.

Now its time to research for new steps.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE STUDENTS                       GOOD READERS, BETTER RESEARCHERS                     AND MORE CURİOUS????

New generation students started to find everything ready. They "google" what they want to know, then use "copy-paste"

I can summarize all my opinions about this subject in a question.

How should students use internet to do reaserch instead of finding everything ready?

I need some help to show students internet doesn't only meran usine "Facebook" or "twitter" to talk about their daily habits.

When I started to use "Flipped Classroom" idea some of my students opened a gmail account for the first time.

 They got used to checking their inbox, trying "Google Docs"  or "Google Forms". But last week I realised something. 

Some of them who use Facebook and/or Twitter, are stubborn to use "Google Forms". They think that it's so difficult to use. ( Their duty is just to click the link and choose some of the answers.)

• Is it a reaction to learn new concepts or a deficiency of internet usage??

They should become good readers, researchers and curious pupils because everything is in change so that the necessities are.

They should constitute new jobs and business areas.

• What should we do about this issue???

PANİC...  You feel very stressed  when you fall behind  the curriculum . In these circumstances you can't do anything except mistakes.
I found a formula. I started to implement "Flipped Classroom" to my classes.

• Which points should we flip ? 

İf we don't want to lose so much time for our lecture, we can make a lesson plan for preparing an online class, outside the classroom. As a result of this homeworks can be done during class hours.

• How can we prepare lessons?

You can prepare a video with 

• "Smart Notebook" Programmes recording. 
• "Starboard Software" Programmes recording.
• Or you can use your camera for this task. You can also try "Knowmia" Application 

At this step my assistant applications like "Google Apps" can help us.





You can share these videos in "Goggle Docs" or  " Youtube" for your students.

Then you can upload a small exercise and check the answers with "Google Forms".


In addition I use  "Flubaroo" to check the answers and send the results to students via e-mail.  


  Finally according to the answers of the students you can build your lesson. As a result all these tasks the students can be ready to do more exercises during CLASSROOM.

Intrinsically teachers should work  for a specified period. But I think this method can teach the students
 "How to  learn".

To İntegrate Technology in My Classroom, According to Culture of My Students and My School.

I think technology is like a big ocean. Nowadays you can find lots of articles, experiences or videos about using technology in your classroom to make a good understanding. But It's important to recognise your school and your classroom. You can't apply the method as the same way that you found, heard or watched from somewhere. We (students and teachers) have diffrent cultures, diffrent levels and diffrent financial conditions. As a result we should integrate technology to ourselves.

Month  ago I attended XII. Annual Educatiıon Symposıum and I met new people(teachers, teacher trainers and coordinators). Especially I can say that I made a friend there who brought me new perspectives and showed new ways to use technology in my classroom like "Google Apps", "Geogebra" etc. And I started to implement some of these ways. 

• I started to use Google Docs to accumulate the homework,  answer keys (that I choose it from my student's papers to promote competetion among them) or some notes about lessons.
• On the other hand  Gmail, WhatsApp and Facebook help the students to contact me  for questions that they couldn't solve.

• And "GeoGebra"... I think it's very a useful program to make a good understanding in lessons about abstract thinking. Especially  It helps me in "Linear and Quadratic Equation's Graphics" lessons. I want to show some pictures that my students drew this Parabolas with using the program.

I want to add something. We have interactive whiteboards but it isn't practisable to write on it and solve the questions because of it's speed. So that we often use the classic whiteboard to avoid losing time. 

 I would also like to say, I have diffrent level students. Some of them don't use the ways that I mentioned or they decline the responsibility for some reasons. I'm looking for diffrent ways  to feature them in learning activities.

  So that I returned to my article's beginning. Technology is like an ocean you should decide how to make progress with recognise your students and your school.
